After five years of implementation, the project required a closeout communication approach that could document cumulative impact beyond technical reports and indicators. The challenge was to translate a complex, multi-basin conservation program into clear, compelling, and human-centred stories that reflected both measurable results and lived experience across diverse ecological and social contexts.
Our communication expert supported the design and coordination of an integrated closeout storytelling initiative that combined strategic multimedia production with field-based story collection. Two complementary formats were developed: a short impact video capturing program-wide achievements and long-term contribution, and a curated collection of photo stories and testimonials told through the voices of beneficiaries and conservation champions. Story development was grounded in real landscapes, community experience, and freshwater ecosystems across western Nepal, ensuring authenticity and narrative coherence.
Strategic guidance and content oversight for a 5–10 minute multimedia impact video documenting five years of program implementation
Stories were collected across multiple watersheds, including Jhimruk, Middle Rapti, Lower and Middle Karnali, Thuligaad, and Rangun. The content reflected core program themes such as river basin planning, sustainable hydropower, co-management of freshwater resources, and climate resilience.
The closeout storytelling initiative produced a lasting narrative record of USAID PAANI’s impact. The multimedia content was used in final reporting, public communication, and knowledge-sharing processes, helping connect technical outcomes with human experience and local context.
By centering real voices, places, and ecosystems, the initiative strengthened public and institutional understanding of freshwater conservation as both an environmental and social investment. The content remains reusable for future learning, advocacy, and program design.
